Business Problem

Car rental companies faced challenges with manual booking processes, inefficient fleet allocation, difficulties in tracking vehicle availability and maintenance, and a lack of real-time insights into operational performance. This led to lost bookings, increased operational costs, and customer dissatisfaction.

Solution

Developed a scalable car rental platform using Laravel, integrating with GPS tracking systems and payment gateways (Stripe, Paymob). Implemented real-time vehicle availability, dynamic pricing algorithms based on demand and location, automated maintenance scheduling, and a robust reservation management system. Utilized Laravel Horizon for managing high-volume rental processes.

Architecture

Modular architecture with Vehicle Inventory Management, Reservation & Booking Engine, Payment Gateway Integration, GPS Tracking Module, Maintenance Scheduling, and Customer Relationship Management. Employs Redis for caching vehicle availability and pricing. Uses queued jobs for booking confirmations, contract generation, and notification delivery. Integrates with accounting systems for financial reconciliation.

Challenges

Ensuring real-time vehicle availability across multiple depots and preventing double-bookings, implementing dynamic pricing models that react to demand and seasonality, securely processing various payment types, integrating with diverse GPS tracking devices and telematics systems, and managing complex insurance and damage assessment workflows.

Performance Optimizations

Implemented Redis for caching vehicle availability and rental rates to improve booking response times, optimized database queries for vehicle search and rental history, utilized Laravel Horizon for scalable processing of rental agreements and vehicle handover/return processes, and employed Livewire for dynamic updates to vehicle status and location on the admin dashboard.
