Enterprise Social Network Platform

Business Problem

Large organizations struggled with fragmented internal communication, lack of employee engagement, and difficulties in sharing knowledge across departments. This led to miscommunication, duplication of effort, and a disconnected workforce, impacting productivity and employee morale.

Solution

Developed a secure enterprise social network using Laravel, Vue.js with Inertia.js for a rich user experience, and WebSockets (Pusher/Laravel Echo) for real-time interactions. Implemented user profiles, activity feeds, group discussions, and direct messaging. Utilized Spatie Media Library for file sharing and Spatie Permission for granular access control over groups and content.

Architecture

Micro-service oriented architecture with User Management, Activity Feed Service, Group Collaboration, Real-time Messaging, File Management, and Notification Service. Employs Redis for caching activity feeds and real-time presence. Uses Laravel Echo with WebSockets for instant updates and chat. Queued jobs handle content indexing, notification delivery, and analytics. Integrates with SSO for seamless employee access.

Challenges

Ensuring real-time content delivery and notifications across thousands of concurrent users, managing vast amounts of user-generated content and media, maintaining data privacy and security for internal communications, designing flexible group and permission structures, and providing a scalable architecture for a continuously growing user base and content volume.

Performance Optimizations

Implemented Redis for caching activity feeds and group discussions to improve load times, optimized database queries for content search and user interactions, utilized Laravel Horizon for scalable processing of content indexing and notification delivery, and employed Vue.js for a highly responsive and interactive social feed with infinite scroll.
