Learning Management System (LMS)

Business Problem

Educational institutions and corporations struggled with delivering engaging online content, tracking student progress effectively, managing assessments securely, and providing a centralized platform for learning resources. This led to fragmented learning experiences, administrative burden, and an inability to scale training initiatives.

Solution

Developed a robust LMS using Laravel for the backend, Inertia.js with Vue.js for a dynamic single-page application experience, and Spatie Media Library for rich media content delivery. Implemented modules for course authoring, interactive quizzes, progress tracking, and secure certificate generation. Laravel Sanctum secures API access for mobile learning.

Architecture

Micro-service oriented architecture with Course Management, Content Delivery Service, Assessment Engine, User Progress Tracking, and Communication & Collaboration Modules. Utilizes S3 for scalable media storage, Laravel Horizon for processing background tasks like video encoding and certificate generation, and WebSockets for real-time collaborative features in discussion forums.

Challenges

Ensuring secure content delivery and preventing unauthorized access to course materials, building a robust assessment engine that supports various question types and proctoring, managing large volumes of multimedia content efficiently, and designing a scalable architecture that handles thousands of concurrent learners.

Performance Optimizations

Implemented CDN integration for faster media content delivery, utilized Redis for caching frequently accessed course modules and quiz questions, optimized database queries for student progress reports, and employed Vue.js component lazy loading for faster initial page renders. Used Laravel Scout with Elasticsearch for full-text search across course content.
