Business Problem

Event organizers faced challenges with managing ticket inventory, preventing fraud, securely processing online payments, and handling high demand during ticket releases. This led to revenue loss, logistical complexities, and a compromised customer experience.

Solution

Developed a robust ticket booking system using Laravel, integrating with secure payment gateways (Stripe, PayPal, Paymob) and implementing a unique barcode/QR code generation for each ticket. Utilized Redis for real-time ticket availability and sale tracking, and Laravel Horizon for managing high-volume transactions and fraud detection. Spatie Permission ensures secure access for event staff.

Architecture

Event-driven architecture with Ticket Inventory Management, Seating Chart Engine, Payment Gateway Integration, Barcode/QR Code Generation, and Fraud Detection Module. Employs pessimistic locking for ticket reservations to prevent overselling. Uses WebSockets for real-time sales updates and queued jobs for email ticket delivery and post-purchase notifications. Integrates with access control systems for seamless entry.

Challenges

Ensuring real-time ticket availability and preventing overselling during high-demand events, implementing complex pricing rules (e.g., dynamic pricing, group discounts), securely handling millions of concurrent payment transactions, and designing robust fraud detection mechanisms to protect against scalping and unauthorized resales.

Performance Optimizations

Implemented Redis for caching ticket availability and pricing to ensure sub-second response times during peak sales, optimized database queries for ticket search and order history, utilized Laravel Horizon for scalable processing of high-volume ticket purchases and fraud checks, and employed client-side validation with Vue.js to enhance the checkout experience.
